Underground Services – A Site Manager’s guide to Managing the Risk

This course will introduce the participant to the key risks and issues relating to underground services in Australia, and how they are managed in the field by the new supervisor, manager and engineer. It will include:

  • Obligations of contractors in regards to underground assets
  • The role of BYDA
  • The risks involved
  • What are the triggers for underground asset checks?
  • How is a check properly done, and when should it be done?
  • Reading and interpreting plans
  • Ensuring the team knows what to do, and when


Learning Outcomes:

This entry level course will aid participants to understand the law in regard to underground assets, and what their obligation is on a site. The participant will be explained the nature of the risks involved and what the correct steps are to meet the law and manage these risks. The participant will understand what they need to do with respect to managing a team on site.

Otre Moussa
Otre Moussa is a qualified Civil Engineer with nineteen years’ experience in the protecting of underground services across Australia. His areas of expertise include networking with underground asset owners, public speaking (awareness presentations), utility event management, damage minimisation programming and management of Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) members. Otre also has a good knowledge and understanding of relocation of the underground assets and is an expert witness in courts for underground asset strikes. He has proven success in coordinating damage minimisation strategies with various councils and underground asset owners.

  1. If you wish to cancel or change your booking please email us at admin@iciaustralia.com at least 21 days (the Notice Period) before the scheduled course.
  2. Courses are booked in the name of an individual and are not transferable.
  3. There is no cost if you transfer the fee to another course before the Notice Period.
  4. A $50 (inc GST) processing fee applies if you request a refund of the booking fee before the Notice Period.
  5. No credit, transfer of fee or refund is given if cancellation is requested within the Notice Period of the course.
